Formed in 2000, the Society for Acute Medicine is the national representative body for staff caring for medical patients in the acute hospital setting. The SAM web site provides guidelines and support to its members in the acute medicine specialty.
The project involved a complete site redesign and rebuild from an ageing version of Joomla which was difficult for SAM staff to maintain and was becoming a security risk because of a lack of updates to the CMS framework. The new site was required to have a fresh and accessible look, and to display legibly on mobile devices. In addition, the following custom functions were built:
- Secure login area for SAM members to access member-only content
- A Unit Directory of acute medicine units that can be submitted by members
- A secure voting system for members to vote on board positions and Society issues
